New Delhi, January 26, 2026 — India on Monday celebrated its 77th Republic Day with a series of official ceremonies, cultural programmes, and public events across the country, marking 77 years since the Constitution came into force on January 26, 1950.
In New Delhi, the Republic Day parade at Kartavya Path was preceded by elaborate security arrangements, including multi-layered surveillance, traffic restrictions, and aerial monitoring. Thousands of spectators gathered to witness the annual ceremony, while millions more watched the live broadcast across the country.
Apart from the military march-past and cultural tableaux, this year’s celebrations placed emphasis on women-led development, indigenous technology, and inclusive growth, themes reflected in several displays and performances. Schoolchildren and folk artists from different regions participated in cultural segments highlighting India’s unity in diversity.
Governors and chief ministers hoisted the national flag in their respective states and Union Territories, followed by parades and public addresses. Educational institutions and government offices organised special programmes, while awards and honours were distributed at state-level functions in recognition of exemplary public service.
Security agencies remained on high alert throughout the day in metropolitan cities and sensitive areas, with additional deployment of police and paramilitary forces. Authorities also issued advisories to manage crowds and ensure smooth conduct of events.
Messages of greetings poured in from national leaders, emphasising the importance of constitutional values, social harmony, and collective responsibility. As India marked another milestone in its democratic journey, the celebrations reflected both remembrance of past sacrifices and confidence in the nation’s future path.
